With the aim of developing clinical practice recommendations and standardizing procedures on oral immunotherapy in food allergy in Portugal, the “Food Allergy” Interest Group of the Portuguese Society of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (SPAIC) prepared the “Guidelines on Oral Immunotherapy in Food Allergy”. On this Educational Page, we present the second chapter of the guidelines, where a review of the basic principles of oral immunotherapy with food is carried out, covering concepts, effectiveness, protocols, safety, indications, contraindications, risk factors, cofactors, requirements and long-term follow-up of this differentiated specific treatment of food allergy.
