CARRAPATOSO, Isabel et al. Chapter VII: Peach oral immunotherapy - Guidelines for of oral immunotherapy for food allergy. Rev Port Imunoalergologia [online]. 2025, vol.33, n.3, pp.163-181.  Epub 30-Set-2025. ISSN 0871-9721.  https://doi.org/10.32932/rpia.2025.09.169.

With the aim of standardizing procedures on oral immunotherapy in food allergy in Portugal, the “Food Allergy” Interest Group of the Portuguese Society of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (SPAIC) has developed the Guidelines on Oral Immunotherapy in Food Allergy. This educational page presents the seventh chapter of the guidelines, which reviews peach allergens, sensitization profiles, clinical manifestations and epidemiological data. It also summarizes the current evidence on published oral and sublingual immunotherapy regimens, with the goal of commenting on and discussing existing protocols.

Unlike oral immunotherapy for other foods described in the previous chapters, peach allergy targets a ubiquitous plant protein. This implies that achieving permanent tolerance could enable patients to consume several taxonomically unrelated foods.

The quality of life of patients with peach allergy and lipid transfer protein (LTP) syndrome is severely compromised by the need to restrict multiple plant foods, the progressive increase in sensitization and severity, and the lack of mandatory labeling. We believe that successful immunotherapy has the potential to radically transform the quality of life of patients affected by this condition.

Palavras-chave : Food allergy; cofactors; oral immunotherapy; sublingual immunotherapy; LTP; peach.
