Introduction:
The transition phase to University education is marked by changes that occur in many various aspects, including changes in sleep patterns, which plays an active role in the general development of students, especially regarding restorative functions.
Objectives:
To analyze the factors that affect the quality of sleep of higher education students.
Methods:
A systematic literature review was made, with a selection of articles in a temporal frieze from 2012-2020, on PubMed, B-On and SCIELO search engines. The studies were analyzed and evaluated according to the inclusion criteria previously determined. The review was constituted by 5 articles, those that revealed methodological quality.
Results:
The results obtained reveal that, overall, university education students show poor sleep quality, being related, among others, to factors such as being a student worker, working in shifts, consuming caffeine, alcohol and tobacco.
Conclusion:
In view of the results found, it is considered the need to sensitize higher education students in relation to sleep habits, daytime sleepiness and health literacy, to inform and train them in these areas to reduce risk behaviors more and more threatening their quality of sleep and health in general.
