LEVECOT, Agnès. Flying saucers and other dreams insatiated in the work of Maria Judite de Carvalho. Faces de Eva. Estudos sobre a Mulher [online]. 2024, n.51, pp.94-107.  Epub 30-Jan-2025. ISSN 0874-6885.  https://doi.org/10.34619/fbkc-fibw.

The image of flying saucers, although apparently not relevant in the work of Maria Judite de Carvalho, occupies an appreciable place in her texts, disfiguring itself in multiple meanings that refer to the condition of Portuguese women of the twentieth century, at a time when, on the one hand, space discoveries and explorations open up new imaginary spaces, and on the other hand, feminist movements develop with the consequent dreams of female emancipation. From the thought of Gaston Bachelard, we explore various derivations and interpretations of the metaphors of flying saucers and the yearning for flight, in several short stories and novels of the Portuguese writer.

Palavras-chave : Maria Judite de Carvalho; women; fiction; psychoanalysis; dreams.
