Um punhado de areia nas mãos - Diário II by Maria João Ruivo is a diaristic work that explores memory, time, and subjectivity through a fragmented, reflective, and intimate style. The metaphor of sand represents the fragility and transience of experience, while highlighting the ability to preserve memories and construct meaning from the ephemeral. This conception resonates with Calvino’s notion of collection as an attempt to retain what escapes and crystallize moments, as well as with Pierre Pachet’s view of the diary as a way of inscribing the instant and the everyday into literature, granting them emotional depth and narrative value.
