Resumen

LOAIZA-LIMA, Eduardo; RODRIGUEZ-HIDALGO, Claudia; HERNANDO-GOMEZ, Ángel  y  GARCIA-ROJAS, Antonio. Older adults facing media and information literacy in Bolivia and Ecuador. RISTI [online]. 2025, n.58, pp.51-66.  Epub 30-Jun-2025. ISSN 1646-9895.  https://doi.org/10.17013/risti.58.51-66.

In the era of ICTs and hyperactivity, a sector of the population continues to navigate on the periphery of connectivity, socially excluded from the digital society: the elderly. We propose to analyze the relationship between older adults and digital platforms in order to identify opportunities for media and information literacy with this group of people. To this end, a survey was applied to a sample of 400 people over 65 years of age in Ecuador and Bolivia. The main findings reveal that most older adults perceive themselves as incapable of handling technological tools and are unaware of issues related to media and information literacy; likewise, it was found that their family environment is the main space for training on these issues, and that independent search for information is a frequent practice of this age group.

Palabras clave : Media literacy; older adults; Ecuador; Bolivia; technologies.
