Resumen
GOMES, João Pedro et al. An Accessible Computing Approach to Leverage Smart Tourism in Low-Density Territories. RISTI [online]. 2025, n.58, pp.81-95. Epub 30-Jun-2025. ISSN 1646-9895. https://doi.org/10.17013/risti.58.81-95.
This article explores the concept of Smart Cities adapted to areas of low population density, with a specific focus on tourism. An accessible and flexible technological model is presented for exploiting sensor networks, using low-cost, low-energy transmission technologies such as LoRaWAN. A modular model is presented that integrates low-cost sensors, long-distance networks and data analysis platforms, with a view to monitoring various parameters that can be used in different contexts, particularly tourism. The collaborative approach to data acquisition and utilization encourages system scalability and promotes partnership solutions. The prototype implemented to test the technical feasibility and potential of the proposal as a driver of local development is described. This work contributes to expanding the smart region concept to less populated territories.
