SILVA, Joana; BRANDAO, Ana Maria  e  HOHENDORFF, Jean Von. Men victims of sexual violence: reports of the violence experienced. SOCIOLOGIA ON LINE [online]. 2025, n.37, e2025374.  Epub 25-Jul-2025. ISSN 1647-3337.  https://doi.org/10.30553/sociologiaonline.2025.37.4.

This article explores and reflects on individual experiences of sexual victimization of men during childhood and/or adolescence, with the aim of identifying convergences with previously published work on the subject. This is a qualitative study, which used case studies and life stories as the primary data collection technique. The empirical object of the study was thirteen men living in Portugal, aged between twenty-five and sixty-three. The data was processed using thematic content analysis. There was a difficulty in reporting memories of the sexual violence suffered, which seems to be related to normative masculinity. In line with other studies, it was found that, in the majority of cases, the perpetrators were known to the victims and, although the majority were male, there were also female perpetrators. The aim is to help demystify the dominant representations of men as oppressors and women as oppressed. Age, vulnerable family environments and precarious access to public policies such as education, health and housing appear as determining factors in the narratives collected. These aspects are in line with previous studies, revealing how these conditions contribute both to sexual victimization and to polyvictimization processes, at a structural level and at a social level.
