ABRANTES, Pedro; SANTOS, Susana  e  SCHIPPLING, Anne. Socialisation, Educational Trajectories and Internationalisation amongst Young People from the Dominant Classes. Revista Crítica de Ciências Sociais [online]. 2024, n.134, pp.51-74.  Epub 30-Set-2024. ISSN 2182-7435.  https://doi.org/10.4000/12g0o.

Drawing on a line of research developed over the last ten years, this article focuses on the concept of socialisation, arguing that it remains fundamental for understanding individual trajectories and social inequalities in the context of globalisation. Using the theories of classic authors as a reference, the research that has been carried out since the end of the 20th century has updated and extended the concept’s heuristic potential. This article uses this conceptual framework to analyse life stories that were collected as part of two recent studies in Lisbon: one with students from international schools and the other with young lawyers. The concept of socialisation is therefore used to understand the trajectories of these young people and, more broadly, the (re)production of youth inequalities in contemporary societies, while focusing on internationalisation.

Palavras-chave : elites; internationalization; life stories; Portugal; social inequality; socialization of young people.
