Abstract

AMADO, Guy. A place in the world: comments on João Tabarra's work. Estúdio [online]. 2015, vol.6, n.12, pp.122-131. ISSN 1647-6158.

The article is focused on the imagistic production of the Portuguese artist João Tabarra. In a trajectory on which is underlined a particular taste for social and political matters, the artist himself is often seen as a character in his own films or photographic series. This process raises the identity issue as a topic of prominence in his work and strongly related to the artist's personal values and concerns. It is also intended to approach the ways by which the epic and pathetic aspects emerge on Tabarra's body of work somehow inscribing it on a hypothetical poetics of failure.

Keywords : portuguese contemporary art; art and politics; photography and video; poetics of failure.
