Existe um reconhecimento crescente sobre o contributo da pequena agricultura nos sistemas alimentares locais: abastecimento dos consumidores de proximidade, autoconsumo por parte do agregado familiar, diversidade nas dietas e trocas com vizinhos e conhecidos. O projeto europeu SALSA (2016-2020) tem como base uma abordagem territorial analisando o papel da pequena agricultura, entendida como o conjunto de explorações agrícolas que não vão além de limiares fixados de dimensão física e económica, nos sistemas alimentares locais em várias regiões da Europa e África, focando em particular a sua capacidade produtiva e o contributo para a segurança alimentar à escala sub-regional. Partindo da recolha de informação desenvolvida durante este projeto, nomeadamente as áreas de produção nas pequenas explorações agrícolas e as atividades nelas desenvolvidas, considerou-se pertinente perceber qual o rendimento efectivo a que corresponde a produção nestas pequenas explorações. Irá, assim, recorrer-se à metodologia dos valores de produção padrão (VPP) aplicado a algumas produções de uma das regiões englobadas no projeto: o Alentejo Central. Desta forma pretende-se estimar o contributo potencial da pequena agricultura no rendimento familiar e nos sistemas alimentares locais, bem como perceber a quantidade de trabalho familiar e não familiar eventual ou permanente envolvido nessa produção.

There is growing recognition about the contribution of smallholder agriculture to the local food systems: the proximity consumer supply, informal exchanges, diversity in diets and self-consumption by the household. The European Salsa (2016-2020) project is based on a territorial approach: it addresses small farms role, understood as the set of farms that do not go beyond fixed threshold of physical and economic dimension, in food chains at local level in various regions of Europe and Africa, in particular its productive capacity and contribution to food and nutrition security at sub-regional scale. From the collection of information developed during this project, namely the areas of production of small farms and the activities developed in them, it was considered pertinent to understand the effective income which corresponds to the production on these small farms. Thus, we will use the methodology of standard outputs (SO) applied to the study of some representative activities of one of the regions included in the project: Alentejo Central. In this way it is intended to estimate the potential contribution of small agriculture to family income and to the local food systems, as well as to understand the amount of family and unfamiliar eventual or permanent work involved in this production.
