^lpt^aRealizadas num ambiente predominantemente calmo, as eleições nacionais de maio de 2014 na África do Sul deram outra «vitória» ao partido no poder, o Congresso Nacional Africano (anc). Considerando a «libertação incompleta» da África do Sul, o compromisso das negociações da Codesa que está a gerar a revolta em muitos ativistas e intelectuais africanos, e a tensão crescente resultado do desrespeito do anc pelos eleitores, estas eleições, quando analisadas a partir da perspetiva da apatia dos eleitores, indicam uma possível viragem no panorama político. Considerando que o único benefício real que se generalizou na maioria dos sul-africanos no pós-1994 foi a liberdade política, para muitos jovens sul--africanos a questão que agora se coloca é «Que democracia é esta que a África do Sul parece estar a alcançar?».^len^aThe May 2014 national elections in South Africa delivered another ‘victory’ to the ruling African National Congress (ANC). Considering South Africa’s «unfinished liberation», the compromised negotiation at CODESA which is now raising the ire of many African activists and intellectuals, and the growing tension over the ANC’s disrespect for voters through its continued practise of cadre deployments; the elections when analysed from a voter apathy perspetive indicates a shift in the political landscape. For many young South Africans, the question that is now being asked is «What is this ‘democracy’ that South Africa is supposed to have achieved?» considering that the only real benefit that has accrued to the majority of South Africans post-1994 is political freedom.
