O Governo George W. Bush e o relacionamento EUA -América Latina

O objetivo deste artigo é avaliar o relacionamento entre Estados Unidos e América Latina durante o Governo de George W. Bush. Em particular, procurar-se-á identificar as diferentes determinantes conjunturais e estruturais do processo de «distanciamento hemisférico», e a consequente erosão da influência americana na região. Serão também avaliadas as perspectivas para esse relacionamento nos próximos anos, com a eleição de um novo Governo americano, democrata ou republicano.

The Bush Administration and US-Latin American relations

This article offers an evaluation of the United States relationship with Latin America during Buhs’s two terms at the White House. We argue that the main trend of the Bush administration in Latin America has been a process of “hemispheric disengagement” which has led to the erosion of American influence in the region, a problem that the next President will have to address, be he a Democrat or a Republican.
