This article approaches Luandino Vieira’s writing, and specially the emblematic case of the short stories in Luuanda (1964), as an example of a committed dialectic exchange between literary representation and lived socio-political experience. Key concepts to structure this reflexion are ‘border’, ‘cultural exchange’ and ‘tradition’, in articulation with political context, the role of literature and the definition of a national project.
