Abstract

BATEL, Joana. The face of the line Ana Hatherly. Diacrítica [online]. 2014, vol.28, n.3, pp.289-307. ISSN 0807-8967.

There is an affinity between the line of writing and the line of drawing solely revealed through its kinship. There is no other way of expressing this relationship, we are aware of it by an immediate acknowledgement. Thus, one spans a new horizon to the line, the feeling, which puts us before writing or drawing. To Portuguese artist and poet Ana Hatherly, who in the early sixties initiated a singular course through the inner aspects of writing, the fibril line loses its writing feature, but still retains the word’s guise. In some of her visual poems, writing loses its sovereignty at the erosion of all which funds it, and depiction takes the lead. Ana Hatherly undertakes the "listening of the matter" and appeals to the "reinvention of writing".

Keywords : Drawing; writing-image; set; synthesis; artistic creation.
