Abstract

PEREIRA, Almerinda Maria do Rosário. Return to the deepest emptiness of juan josé millás: the 40th anniversary of cerbero son las sombras. Diacrítica [online]. 2015, vol.29, n.3, pp.144-167. ISSN 0807-8967.

This article commemorates 40 years of literary career since the publication of Millás' Cerbero son las sombras, analyzing the way in which the writer, when he was young, revealed his concern with existential matters. This was projected through an aesthetics of emptying, that afterwards would require a filling, provided with a different colouring, process that the reader recognizes in the writing of Juan José Millás (born in Valencia, 1946), who now is reaching his seventies. Going back takes us to the writer's deepest side, the discovery of physical reduction, that is simultaneously spiritual decline and even complete obliteration.

Keywords : mutilation; amputation; death; dehumanization; immobility.
