Abstract
MELO, Rafael Rodolfo de and MENEZZI, Cláudio Henrique Soares Del. Influence of the Density in Physical-Mechanical Properties of Particleboards. Silva Lus. [online]. 2010, vol.18, n.1, pp.59-73. ISSN 0870-6352.
This paper aimed at evaluating the effect of the board density on physical and mechanical properties of particleboards made from Eucalyptus grandis W. Hill ex Maiden. Three board densities were tested: 0.6, 0.7, and 0.8g/cm3. For each density level four boards were manufactured as follow: 8% urea-formaldehyde resin, 1% wax, 180ºC hot-pressing for 8 minutes and 3.0 MPa. For each treatment, samples for the physical assays (density, moisture content, water absorption and thickness swelling) and mechanical assays (static bending, internal bonding and screw withdrawal) had been removed. Results indicated relations between board density and properties evaluated, with the best relations for mechanical properties, that increased with panels' densification. The water absorption reduced with increased board density and thickness swelling, as an inverse behavior presented.
