Abstract
VASCONCELOS, Pedro. Famílias complexas: tendências de evolução. Sociologia, Problemas e Práticas [online]. 2003, n.43, pp.83-96. ISSN 0873-6529.
An endeavour is made to trace the main development trends in complex family households in Portugal from 1991 to 2001, on the basis of an analysis of census data. To characterise this specific way of organising family life, the internal family structure of this complexity and the social profile of the people involved will be analyzed. Inter-regional variation in family complexity, a classical subject of sociological and anthropological observation, will also be analysed. Throughout the analysis an attempt will be made to present some of the clues as to why the relative importance of complexity in the overall panorama of domestic structures in Portugal has progressively decreased.
