Abstract

The process of economic globalization has been considered the driver force of significant changes affecting the society and firms. The competition occurs not only among firms, but also among regions. Furthermore, the competitive advantage of firms will depend highly on the quality of the created advantages by the local environment. Local advantages to attract new investments are not limited to traditional factors like low costs of labor force and fiscal incentives, but are more related to the conditions of innovativeness in the region. Thus, several regions have been establishing scientific and technological parks with the aim to creating new localization’s advantage to attract firms and skills. Based on a cross country analysis, the objective of the present paper is to address different frameworks of local parks in developing and emerging countries in order to identify the best practices in local competitiveness and their connection to the strategies of innovativeness.
