This article begins by outlining the contradiction whereby women increasingly occupy central positions in the performing arts while distancing themselves from feminism. It analyses two Portuguese performances where women are central: A living museum of small, forgotten memories by Joana Craveiro, and Fausta by Patricia Portela. It concludes that these performances offer significant alternatives to normative constructions of gender and neoliberal models of individual success.
