Resumen

ABRANTES, Manuel. The open doors: What do we know about domestic service in Portugal?. Faces de Eva. Estudos sobre a Mulher [online]. 2021, n.45, pp.102-123.  Epub 30-Nov-2021. ISSN 0874-6885.  https://doi.org/https://doi.org/10.34619/xsly-4uky.

Domestic service has been paid attention by social scientists, both for its relevance in capitalist production systems and for the concerns it raises to feminist thinking. This article presents a critical synthesis of our knowledge about domestic service in Portugal. How did it change over the last decades? What is its current volume? Under what conditions is it performed? Which class and gender inequalities continue to structure it? Passing through the doors opened by past studies, we conclude with four recommendations for future research.

Palabras clave : class; gender; migration; domestic service; domestic work.
