Abstract

DIAS, Taís Ritter  and  LOPONTE, Luciana Gruppelli. Feminist practices of the self in the poetics of Panmela Castro. Faces de Eva. Estudos sobre a Mulher [online]. 2022, n.48, pp.79-97.  Epub Feb 20, 2023. ISSN 0874-6885.  https://doi.org/10.34619/svbi-s1qj.

How can feminist practices of the self, contained on the works of contemporary artists, produce new ways of living, more ethically committed with the Other? This issue starts with the debate we hereby propose: to consider Michel Foucault’s studies regarding taking care of oneself as a conceptual mobilizer to discuss the poetics of Brazilian artist Panmela Castro. By adding Foucauldian theorizations, not forgetting the criticisms of feminist theorists regarding the French philosopher, we bring together the practices of the self, as he theorized, and the artist’s poetics, which are guided by the desire for the encounter with the Other.

Keywords : Foucault and feminisms; care for oneself; art and feminism.
