Abstract

ANTUNES, Susana L. M.  and  GUIMARAES, Maria C. O.. Cais-do-Sodré Té Salamansa: Marginal existences in Orlanda Amarilis’ short stories. Faces de Eva. Estudos sobre a Mulher [online]. 2022, n.48, pp.98-112.  Epub Feb 20, 2023. ISSN 0874-6885.  https://doi.org/10.34619/n15y-imnj.

This paper aims to reread and rethink the short story collection Cais-do-Sodré Té Salamansa (1974) by the Cape Verdean writer Orlanda Amarilis (1942-2014). The revisitation is motivated by the actuality of the issues that, after forty-eight years, remain to arouse interest in issues that are still being discussed. On this journey, emphasis is placed on the permanence of a continuum of marginalized existences, intensified by the images of Cape Verdean women located/besieged inside, or outside the ten islands. In this context, is the present study intends to highlight the charisma of resistance being shaped by patchwork lives and disenchantment revitalized by memory.

Keywords : Orlanda Amarilis; patchwork lives; memory; disenchantment.
