Abstract

FREIRE, Teresa; TEIXEIRA, Ana  and  BOAS, Daniela Vilas. Subjective happiness scale: validation for portuguese adolescents. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.1, pp.203-215.  Epub Apr 30, 2022. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/22psd230120.

The aim of the present study is to validate the Subjective Happiness Scale (Lyubomirsky & Lepper, 1999) for Portuguese adolescents, while relating it to positive (self-esteem and life satisfaction) and negative (depression, anxiety and stress) functioning variables. Participated 884 students aged between 11 and 18 years old. The results obtained with the confirmatory factor analysis showed a good fit of the data to the model, suggesting that this scale can be applied to adolescents. Findings showed statistically significant positive associations between happiness and positive functioning variables and negative associations between happiness and negative functioning variables. The results suggest that the Subjective Happiness Scale is a valid and reliable measure for evaluating subjective happiness in adolescents.
