Abstract

DOMINGUINHOS, Pedro; PEREIRA, Raquel  and  SILVEIRA, Rogério. Entrepreneurship process: a collective phenomenon supported on human and social capital. Rev. Portuguesa e Brasileira de Gestão [online]. 2007, vol.6, n.3, pp.82-93. ISSN 1645-4464.

This paper discusses the influence of human and social capital of entrepreneurs on new ventures creation. This work is based on 33 case studies of firms created in incubators, a method indicated for a longitudinal analysis about the processes of opportunity framing and firm creation. The evidence collected in case studies support the hypothesis that entrepreneurship can be understood as a collective phenomenon. Additionally, academic qualifications as well as work experience are fundamental resources in entrepreneurial teams, reinforcing the relevance of human capital. Social capital is also essential and is used by entrepreneurs for different purposes, such as access to finance, to partners and workers, as well as to clients and credibility.

Keywords : New Firms Creation; Human Capital; Social Capital; Entrepreneurship.
