Resumen

GASALHO, Maria da Graça  y  PITEIRA, Maria Margarida. Perceptions of social responsibility in the public sector: The Social Security Institute case. Rev. Portuguesa e Brasileira de Gestão [online]. 2015, vol.14, n.3, pp.63-78. ISSN 1645-4464.

Current research followed two purposes: to understand the perception of employees of a Public Institution (PI) regarding the role of Organizational Social Responsibility (OSR); and to identify the organizational practices on pursuing a socially responsible policy. Based on a quantitative methodology a survey was adopted as a privileged instrument; having adapted the Practical Guide to Corporate Social Responsibility developed by the Group GRACE/Ethos (2004, 2011). The results show that employees are committed to management practices in OSR, issues of OSR are more relevant to employees with university degrees, and the internal practices of OSR are more important to young employees, in age and seniority. Considering the differences that are statistically significant, this study brings out new hypotheses to be explored hereafter. Therefore, this study is also a contribution to scientific knowledge in areas where it is scarce: practices in human resources management which promote OSR and the perception of employees about what it means to be socially responsible, as a public organization, which should have this principle in its mission.

Palabras clave : Organizational Social Responsibility; Human Resources Management; Public Institute; Perception of Employees.
