Abstract

CARVALHO, Thiago. The multilateral dimension of luso-brazilian relations (1974-1976). Relações Internacionais [online]. 2009, n.24, pp.47-59. ISSN 1645-9199.

Between April of 1974 and December of 1976, the luso-brazilian relationship went through a profound revision which gave them a new meaning. This process was the result of the different objectives and perceptions between Lisbon and Brasilia, that were accentuate while the colonial problem was arriving to its end and led to the contesting of the pattern of bilateral relations. The appearance of new African players changed the ambit of the lusophone community and it gave more importance to luso-brazilian relationship. From now on, they assumed a multilateral dimension that incorporates the lusophone space into bilateral interests.

Keywords : Luso-brazilian relations; decolonization; transition to democracy; multilateralism.
