Abstract

NEVES, Miguel Santos. China and India in the South Atlantic. Relações Internacionais [online]. 2013, n.38, pp.71-94. ISSN 1645-9199.

This paper begins by analysing the goals, strategy and impact of China’s presence in the South Atlantic and the way it has met the challenges it has come across. The analysis then shifts to India’s presence, seeking to understand the connections with its natural strategic space and the relevance of its relationships with Brazil and South Africa. Finally, it carries out a compared analysis of the action and impact of China and India, with a view to identifying points of convergence and divergence and reflecting on the bilateral relation itself in the context of the South Atlantic, as well as on the tensions and contradictions in the BRICS midst.

Keywords : China; India; South Atlantic; BRICS.
