Abstract

This paper talks about the main factors for the socioeconomic changes that occurred in Brazil during the second half of the 19th century. This research seeks to reflect the consequences of the coffee production in the formation and consolidation of the Brazilian State and the National Economy. In fact, the economy based on coffee production expanded the domestic and international market. In addition, the taxation gave to the Brazilian Government the ability to expand its control over society.
