Abstract

VALESINI, María Silvina. Identities of a shipwreck: n approach between the local and the global concept within the Alexis Leiva Machado installations. Estúdio [online]. 2016, vol.7, n.13, pp.104-113. ISSN 1647-6158.

As part of the PhD Scholarship project called "The role of the spectator in contemporary artistic productions. Towards an aesthetics of performance", led by Ms. Silvia Garcia, this work proposes an approach to the installation art of the Cuban artist Alexis Leiva Machado (best known as Kcho). Across a poetic universe based on the rescuing of fragments and the recovering of scrap, his work reveals itself as a representation of the Cuban identity. But at the same time it has the capacity to transcend the local boundaries and to create networks of universal meaning.

Keywords : installation art; identity; Cuban; insularity; exile.
