Resumen

VICTORINO, José Guilherme. Almanaque (1959-1961): Between satire and social criticism in Salazar’s Portugal. Media & Jornalismo [online]. 2021, vol.21, n.39, pp.77-99.  Epub 31-Dic-2021. ISSN 1645-5681.  https://doi.org/10.14195/2183-5462_39_4.

The short-lived magazine Almanaque had unique characteristics in Portugal and emerged in a troubled period of Salazar’s regime. Despite being tolerated by the censorship apparatus, it took risks as a result of some of its contents, journalists, and other personalities who collaborated in it. Almanaque had a regular oppositional penchant that was often veiled but sometimes quite evident. This study intends to deepen some of the dominant editorials that characterized the magazine, in addition to the existing academic studies, regarding its satirical and social critical dimension, and its correlation with other media of the time. The research was based on the analysis of periodicals, archival documentation and various bibliography.

Palabras clave : journalism; censorship; satire; opposition; salazar’s regime.
