Abstract

DARE, Ana Cristina Lott. Lighting & Elderly People: The meaning of light in promoting comfort and quality of lifec. Revista Convergências [online]. 2020, vol.13, n.26, pp.167-180.  Epub Nov 30, 2020. ISSN 2184-0180.  https://doi.org/10.53681/c1514225187514391s.26.21.

The importance of light for all living beings and for men in particular is revealed by the fact that individuals are prepared to function correctly during the day. The importance of light goes beyond the limits of thought and imagination. It is impossible to conceive the activity of man without this form of energy, and it is also not feasible to define living beings in the absence of light.

The world population has undergone an evolution since the end of the century XX, with the growth of elderly individuals.

In this article we present a critical analysis on the quality of light in indoor spaces, through the recognition of parameters that provide a better experience and promote the interaction between elderly people and the built space.

Recognizing the meaning of light and the impact it promotes in the circadian circle must be considered in lighting design projects, with a comprehensive view on the relationship between lighting and aging, with a focus on those who experience the space, privileging comfort, well-being and safety.

Keywords : Lighting design; Active aging; Healthy; Human Centric Lighting.
